The main GUI has undergone what I am now confident will be its final iteration. Much of the information that was provided with pop-up messages has been replaced by the yellow info panel - there had become simply too many pop-up messages to click through and it was not helping gameplay flow.
I've also decided that I'm going for full-screen, partially transparent images for the random events. I think this will work much better than my original idea of having a small icon in the corner of the screen (where the info pane is now located).
My artist is quietly gibbering in a corner, but I'm reasonably sure he'll get over it. :-D
